November Newsletter 2022

It's November, the month to show how thankful we are for the people around us, for the bounties of life, for our health and abilities, and for myriads of other things. There is no shortage of things to be thankful for, and yet, there are so many people around us who are struggling. In fact, it is estimated that in Weber County only 40% of residents earn enough money to be self-sufficient.

This November our goal at the Ogden Athletic Club is to reach out and help those who are less fortunate, and we invite you to participate with us. We have two programs starting this month: 1) A Winter Clothing Drive and 2) The Giving Tree. We hope you will participate with us in lifting others this holiday season.

As the seasons change, the need for warm clothing, coats, jackets, hats, gloves, and scarves skyrockets. For families struggling to make ends meet and living paycheck to paycheck, warm clothing needs and increased food costs add up fast. Join the OAC and United Way of Northern Utah to help keep families warm. Together, we can lift our most vulnerable.

You can help a family in need by donating:

  • NEW or like new coats
  • NEW socks, boots, beanies, gloves
  • Frozen turkeys
  • Nonperishable food items

DONATION BOXES WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE FRONT DESK STARTING NOVEMBER 1ST, 2022.

The Ogden Athletic Club has teamed up with the Ogden Weber Community Action Partnership (OWCAP) and Ogden School District in providing items for Community Christmas. These items will benefit local children in Weber, Davis, and Box Elder County. Starting this month, we will be placing a "giving tree" in the front lobby. The tree will be ornamented with tags listing the items needed for donation. Club members and employees can then select an ornament tag from the tree, purchase the gift for the specified age on the tag, then return the gift to the front desk. All donations will need to be brought in by December 6th, our final collection day. What a wonderful way to give back this season!

Cooler temperatures are headed our way so here are a few reminders to keep everyone safe on their way to the Club.

  1. On snow days remember to downshift when coming downhill and don't ride your brakes.
  2. Using 4-wheel drive on very snowy days is necessary.
  3. Don't drive in our crosswalk in the middle of the parking lot. The striped lines are for pedestrians, not cars.
  4. Please wipe your feet before entering on mats so we have less salt on the floors and in classrooms, or change your shoes.

It's time for our annual Tennis Ornament Contest. The first step, pick up a tennis ball from the Front Desk. The second step, create your tennis ball Christmas Ornament. Finally, bring it back to the club between November 26th and December 6th, without your name on it. We will put a numbered tag on each ornament. A prize will be given to the Top 5 ornaments on December 15th. One entry per person, but all members can enter. We can't wait to see your creativity!

LADIES WHO LIFT TESTIMONIAL

"I am a senior who NEVER lifted weights before, but "Ladies Who Lift" sounded non-threatening, so I signed up this summer. It was not easy, but Krystykka always warmed us up thoroughly and taught us the correct way to do each lift. My biggest concern was the possibility of injury, but because of Krystykka's great training, I've gotten healthier and stronger and am committed to continuing with this program. Y'all should try it! It's actually fun!"
-Anita I., 73

Travis has been working in the fitness industry as a trainer and coach for over seven years. He first became interested in fitness after seeing how dramatically it improved his mental health and quality of life – "growing up, I didn't play sports and had no athletic background but fell in love with strength training after getting into it as a way to lose weight and improve my body composition. It quickly became more than just a means to better my physical health as it tremendously helped my depression and anxiety – things I've struggled with my whole life." As a trainer, his passion is helping clients realize their potential through better quality of life, living more confident, pain-free, and (most importantly) happier lives. Travis graduated with a BS in Exercise & Sport Science from Weber State University, is certified through the NSCA, and is also a CrossFit Level 1 coach. Outside the gym, Travis enjoys playing guitar and producing music for metal bands and has a passion for philosophy, literature, and anime.

ELEVATED NUTRITION TESTIMONIAL

What did you like best about nutrition coaching?
For me personally, nutrition coaching has provided me with the know-how of what is required of me to reach my weight goals and the accountability to stay on track with those goals.

How do you feel like you changed? Mentally, physically, and overall health?
I personally have seen a big change to my lifting which has led to a positive change in my mentality and my physical appearance. I have reached new goals frequently, which has led to a boost about how I feel about myself overall.

What do you think was the most helpful about working with Elevated Nutrition/Krystykka?
Krystykka is a very approachable and knowledgeable nutrition coach. I have brought up a plethora of questions and concerns to her about reaching my goals, some of which I believed to be stupid, but she always answered professionally and without judgment. This has made everything so much easier for me.

Would you recommend Elevated Nutrition to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes, and I have recommended Elevated Nutrition to a few others at the OAC already. A lot of us struggle with nutrition, and there are so many sources out there telling you what's right and not right. Working one on one with Krystykka on my personal nutrition needs has helped me so much in reaching my goals, I'm no longer struggling with not knowing what it is I really need.
